Practice Manager, Norrie Waite & Slater
This International Women’s Day, we’re proud to shine a spotlight on Sherryl Kirk, our Practice Manager, who has been a valued part of Norrie Waite & Slater for over 20 years.
With more than two decades of dedication to the firm, Sherryl has played a key role in shaping the supportive, professional culture we’re proud of today.
We asked Sherryl to reflect on her journey, leadership, and what International Women’s Day means to her.
When I first joined the firm, my role was very different to what it is today. Over the years, I’ve had the opportunity to grow alongside the business - taking on more responsibility, helping shape processes, supporting teams, and ensuring the firm continues to run smoothly for both staff and clients.
It’s been rewarding to see how much we’ve developed, particularly in how we support our people.
For me, leadership isn’t about titles - it’s about responsibility. It’s about supporting your team, listening, encouraging growth, and creating an environment where people feel confident and valued.
I believe in leading by example, staying approachable, and always being willing to step in and help when needed.
International Women’s Day is a chance to recognise the contribution women make in every profession - including law and professional services.
Over the past 20 years, I’ve seen positive changes in opportunities for women in leadership roles, but it’s still important that we continue to support, mentor and encourage the next generation.
It’s about celebrating progress, but also continuing to move forward.
Have confidence in your abilities and don’t be afraid to put yourself forward. Work hard and be determined - growth often comes from stepping outside your comfort zone.
Surround yourself with people who support and encourage you - and remember that your voice matters.
I’m proud of my own personal journey from Junior Cashier to Practice Manager in a firm that has served its community for so many years. Knowing we’ve helped clients through some of the most important moments in their lives is something I value greatly.
As we mark International Women’s Day, we thank Sherryl for her leadership, dedication and continued contribution to Norrie Waite & Slater.
Celebrating the women who help shape our firm - today and every day.
