Boundary Disputes

Boundary disputes

As we enter the Summer months, the warmer weather and longer days often mean that more people are carrying out garden improvements, which can unfortunately often lead to a boundary dispute.

Boundary disputes are disagreements between neighbours for ownership of an area of land or and they are often complex because the vast majority of title deeds do not show precise boundaries. The Courts will look at various documents and consider legal and expert opinions to determine a boundary and this can end up being a costly process.

The Boundary Disputes Protocol provides a guide to attempt to help landowners resolve disputes amicably through exchanging information, instructing surveyors and informal discussions. The purpose of the Protocol is to settle boundary disputes without the costs of Court proceedings.

The longer a boundary dispute goes on for the more costly it can become. At Norrie Waite & Slater Solicitors we are proactive in helping clients resolve boundary disputes as quickly as possible. We appreciate that boundary disputes can be stressful and it is important to seek advise early to prevent the matter escalating.
