Norrie Waite & Slater provide legal advice in Sheffield's £65m "New Era Square".

September 2014

Plans for a £65m development of retail, office, student accommodation and exhibition hall between London Road and Bramall Lane have been unveiled, and Jon Darwin, Managing Partner at Norrie Waite & Slater is an integral part of the legal work on the land acquisition.

The development is being funded jon darwin solicitorby a consortium of investors from China, the aim being to create a "cosmopolitan, international, multi-cultural square which is available to all". The development should create 400 new jobs in Sheffield once completed.

The local area around St Mary's Gate has already become a focal point for the Chinese community in Sheffield and the development will include a "Chinese business incubator" which it is hoped will help businesses to break into the Chinese market and vice versa for Chinese companies wanting to get a foothold in the UK.

The plans include a 20 storey tower of student accommodation rising above a central plaza surrounded by shops and cafes. Units will also be available for small businesses and start-ups.

Jon Darwin, partner at Norrie Waite & Slater and highly experienced conveyancing solicitor said "We are pleased to be involved in this large and high profile development. As a local company with a long history in the area we are happy to see such a forward thinking development come to Sheffield."

The development has been submitted to city planners and it is hoped that work will begin in early 2015 and be completed in total by the summer of 2018.
