If you have a case in the Magistrates or Crown Court or you have to go for an interview under caution at the police station, we are here to help you. We have experience of every type of case in these areas our advocates appear in court and attend police stations daily. The criminal and road traffic department have 11 experienced advocates covering all South Yorkshire courts and North Derbyshire. We were one of the first firms to be awarded a franchise by the Legal Services Commission and have had a designated defence team since the formation of the firm in 1967.

We cover all classes of criminal and road traffic matters for individuals and for commercial clients. A great deal of our work is legally aided, we can advise you on the availability of legal aid. If you are not entitled to legal aid we will give you a clear quote for the case. In most cases it is possible to give a quote at the start of the case and we don’t charge for the initial interview.

Courts like every other area of society have there own jargon and procedures. Some of the procedures prescribed by law some come from custom. This can be very daunting for someone not used to dealing with it. We see it as a part of our job to explain thoroughly how your case will progress through the system and to deal with your case totally. We have a 24 hour service for police station work and most of our advocates are also duty solicitors. All our police station representatives are qualified approved by the Legal Services Commission and regularly appraised.

We can be contacted on the telephone in office hours also by e mail at any time. Out of hours the answer phone will advise how to contact us.

Whilst no business likes to turn work away there are some cases where it isn’t economical for you to be represented, if we think that is the case we will tell you so at an early stage. Similarly we will give you an honest appraisal of the evidence in any case even if we know that isn’t what you may want to hear. There are often advantages in discussing the case with the prosecuting authority to see if there is any common ground that can be agreed for the benefit of the client. We have the experience to do this on your behalf. In most court cases, unless you are having to give evidence in your trial we can give all the necessary information to the court and all you will have to do is to confirm your name and date of birth.
